Jonesing for Another

Sometimes I wonder if there is something seriously wrong with me... My baby is not even a year old and I am wishing I was pregnant again already. What?!! Maybe it's the serious lack of sleep between the teething baby (N now has 7 teeth and more ready to erupt any day) and the 4 year old who has figured out that if he crawls into my bed in the middle of the night, we're too tired to kick him out. (G claims he's had a bad dream - Every. Single. Night.) Or maybe it wasn't all just talk that I have ALWAYS wanted to be a mom (a stay-at-home-mom, at that). Either way, I've found myself doing some serious scouring of newborn cloth diaper rental packages. With N, I didn't start using cloth until she was about 3 or 4 weeks old. Next time (if I can talk DH into a next time), I want to use cloth from the very beginning.

1. Cloth diapering is way easier than I had anticipated. I know what I'm doing, I have a routine for dealing with dirty cloth diapers, and diaper laundry.

2. I love how much less garbage comes out from the nursery. Seriously, for those first few weeks, it seemed like we were emptying the garbage/diaper pail EVERY DAY.

3. Think of how many diapers and wipes it takes to fill up a garbage pail every day, and I'm thinking of the $$$ I'll be keeping in my pocket thank-you-very-much.

4. Cloth diapers are so cute and little-bitty cloth diapers are even more cute!

I could go on...

More and more cloth diaper shops are offering great rental programs for newborns. I have a hard time deciding if I would go with Sweetbottoms Baby Boutique, which offers the cutest organic fitteds - gentle on baby's bottom and great for keeping messy newborn poo in. The other leading contender is Kissed by the Moon. They actually offer a pretty big selection of newborn diapers to choose from. You can get a full stash of any of the following: Swaddlebees Newborn Simplex, Tots Bots Tini Fit, Lil Joey Newborn AIO, bumGenius Newborn, Fuzzibunz Newborn, or Grovia Newborn AIO. OOOOOOOOR... you can try ALL of them in a bundle. And they are all brand new, just for you.

Both stores offer a refund or store credit (worth MORE than the refund) for the deposit, which is usually about half the cost of the package and what you might expect to pay to diaper your new bundle of joy for a whole week (maybe an exaggeration, but only slightly). Both stores also offer free shipping, which is fantastic and one of the first things I check for when shopping online.

But seriously, how could you not want another little blessing of a baby when you look at pictures of cute fluffy bottomed littles all day? Maybe that's the problem... I need my husband to start looking at cute baby pictures all day too...

  1. LOL, I was not bitten by that bug. I ended up getting pregnant with Bryce before I could get bitten, but that was kind of nice, because about 2 months ago I started getting all gushy about newborns and how cute and little and cuddley they are and that worked out great cause I was already 5 months pregnant!! :)

I'm totally looking into renting newborn diapers for Bryce, thanks for your suggestions!!

  2. My husband wants another and A is only 8 months!! I am a "no" for now. I want to enjoy my baby as long as possible! Just some other tips on "newborn" diapers - the Swaddlebees Newborn Simplex will go up to 15 pounds - more than just the "newborn" for disposables (awesome!), their Mini Nappi also has the same benefit (but doesn't have the snap-down front for the cord), lastly there is the Bottombumpers One Size AIO that can fit smaller than more regular diapers AND can go all the way through potty training! We will cloth from day 1 with number 2!

    2. Also, my oldest was 3-1/2 when N was born, so I definitely understand that desire to enjoy your one on one time!

  3. Well I clicked a post on facebook about karma, and somehow wound up here. I'm amused because I now have a 6 month old and baby fever too.
