A Pet Peeve: Sp@m Comments

Seriously, are there marketers out there who genuinely believe this type of promotion actually works?

Step 1 Go to (random blog)
Step 2 Leave grammatically incorrect, ingenuously flattering, entirely generic comment - sans identity
Step 3 Include link to (p0rn site, etc) as a shortened URL and ask for a courtesy visit

Examples:
Thanks for your support on my weight loss? Also, maybe Google Translate needs an update?

I'm pretty sure the only points I was trying to make in that post was that fresh fruit is yummy and my kids are cute.

To be clear, I am absolutely giddy when any of you comment on the blog, which is what makes the fake ones so much more of a let down.

What are some of your blogging pet peeves?

  1. Spam comments are the pits! You can easily stop them, though, by changing the settings on your blog to only accept comments from Registered Users. I did this recently and I noticed a 0% drop in comments from real people but a 100% in comments from spammers!

  2. I get that same sp a m! Driving me crazy! It's actually the primary reason I'm migrating to WordPress this week, it seems to be Blogger platform-specific.

    1. Bleh - if I could justify the $ for moving to self-hosted WordPress, I'd give serious consideration to following you over!

    1. lol Yay for real people! Good to know I'm not alone in this, but wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to deal with it at all?
