Harper's Playground is an awesome corner of Arbor Lodge Park in North Portland. There's a neat story that I didn't get to hear all of, but I did get to meet Harper's dad. He's the man who planned, organized, and raised the funds for this park. It's designed as all inclusive - a playground for kids of all abilities.
It took us nearly an hour to get to the park, but it was so worth it. First, it was nice to finally get to meet some of the other families. Second, the park was just so much fun! We planned on being there for 2 hours and ended up staying for 4.
While we were there, we were even lucky enough to watch the Portland Parks crew come in and refill the sand "box". I wish I would have taken pictures of that because every child, man, and woman stopped what they were doing and watched. Why was that so fun? I have no idea, but as soon as the guys were done spreading the sand, every kid jumped in and mine were no exception.
The slides were awesome - built into the side of a man-made hill. No ladders to climb, just turf. And the hill was just as fun to slide down as the actual slide, according to my 5 year old.
Maybe we'll end up moving closer to the park, and that would be nice. Either way, I'm sure we'll make another trip out there. And, if you live in the Portland area, you should really check it out. I believe they're even having a big event on August 17th. I'll share the details when I get them!
